BIOGRAPHY

Tanya Semple is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, mixing engineer, live sound and livestream technician living on the unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən People, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations (aka Victoria, BC).

Semple graduated with a Certificate in Music Technology (with distinction) from Camosun College and The Victoria Conservatory of Music in 2022, and spent the next two years doing academic and professional upgrading through the University of Victoria’s Computer Science and Music degree program. With a heightened interest in the technological side of music and audio, Semple currently does freelance work as an audio engineer, a sound tech for live performances, as a livestream technician handling video and audio operations for live concerts and events, and as a composer and sound artist.

Semple has been performing for over 15 years as a solo act (Elder Sister Plum) and in a handful of bands (Fangirl, The Half Moon Shine), collectively releasing seven albums to date. They released their most recent album in 2024, Best Man – an indie rock surf-inspired deep dive into grief and loss, featuring rich vocal harmonies and crunchy guitar solos. Best Man‘s EP, a collaboration with previous bandmate Bret Enemark (The Half Moon Shine), was produced, mixed, edited, and mastered by Semple. With decades of singing in various choirs under their belt, Tanya is a talented singer and arranger having their vocal talents and arranging skills featured on albums released by Rae Spoon, Roger Dean Young, The Sun Harmonic, and The Broadview Band; and they’ve arranged two choir pieces for Marc Jenkins’ prestigious choir ensembles, The Choirs YYJ.
